At Smarter Communities, we believe our commitment to sustainability will not only benefit the environment, it will create business efficiencies and set an example to our team how we are all accountable and can make a difference.
GOING CARBON NEUTRAL
In 2020 Smarter Communities made a commitment to The Forktree Project in South Australia to help improve the health of the planet.
Through the visionary Tim Jarvis AM, an environmental scientist and global ambassador for international sustainability, the Forktree Project involves restoring and reforesting neglected farmland for the purpose of land regeneration and carbon offsetting.
Restoring the land will bring huge biodiversity benefits as well as sequestering tens of thousands of tonnes of carbon.
By participating in this project, Smarter Communities has committed to becoming carbon neutral within five years through the plantation of 900+ plants. These will include Australian natives ranging from Blue, Pink, Cup gums, melaleucas (tea tree), Blackwoods, drooping sheoaks, kangaroo thorns and a range of others. Thanks to the trees and shrubs chosen, there is dual benefit as they both sequester CO2 as well as re-establish the native Australian habitat.
SUPPORTING THE VOICE FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE APARTMENTS
When you find people as passionate about apartments and creating the ideal apartment lifestyle as we are, we naturally wanted to align with them.
Australian Apartment Advocacy (AAA) is a not-for-profit agency that undertakes research with apartment owners and residents to lobby government and developers about the needs of the apartment community.
By partnering with the AAA, we can provide support for the invaluable research (such as how building defects impact owner confidence) and assist with educating the public on the benefits of apartment living.
AAA is the voice for people who choose apartments and together we’re on your side.
SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY
AS A BUSINESS, WE CONTINUALLY EXPLORE MEANINGFUL WAYS TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES.
BUSH FIRE RELIEF
In early 2020, our staff nationally took it upon themselves to raise money for the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund. The business matched our team’s contribution and donated an additional $10,000, bringing the total funds raised to $20,262 for fire victims.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WELLBEING DURING COVID-19
By April 2020, we were all learning to cope with one of the biggest global crises, COVID-19. Coronavirus does not discriminate, and its impact has affected our lives as we knew it.
As a business we were quick to implement our action plan for the safety of our team and clients. But it didn’t stop there. We weren’t prepared to dismiss the level of anxiety and distress caused by this virus and the changes we have all had to adopt.
Both organisations offer 24/7 phone support along with other communication channels and resources to those in need. Help is always available.
